Sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes and a sky full of stars make the Sahara a highlight of any Moroccan journey. It is far from the cities, though, so route and timing matter.
Getting to Merzouga
- From Marrakech: about 9–10 hours by road; an overnight stop is recommended
- From Fes: about 7–8 hours across the Middle Atlas
- The nearest airport is Errachidia, with limited flights
How many days
Allow at least one night in the desert, ideally two. Including the drive in and out, plan three to four days for the desert portion.
