Morocco's climate varies sharply by region. On the same day Marrakech can be warm, the Atlas cold and the Sahara swinging between hot days and chilly nights. Choose the season to fit your route.
Spring (March–May): the most popular season
Mild temperatures and green valleys below snowy Atlas peaks. Ideal for touring and the desert, but hotels fill up — book early.
Summer (June–August): plan for heat inland
Marrakech, Fes and the desert can exceed 40°C. Sightsee early and late and rest in your riad at midday; the Atlantic coast, such as Essaouira, stays milder.
Autumn (September–November): as good as spring
The heat eases and desert nights are comfortable — a good fit for autumn holidays from Japan.
Winter (December–February): sunny days, cold nights
Days in the cities are often bright and pleasant, but desert and mountain nights can approach freezing. With warm layers, it is a quieter time to travel.
Travelling during Ramadan
Travel is possible during Ramadan, though some restaurants close by day and rhythms change. Evenings after sunset are lively. Dates shift each year, so check in advance.
