Morocco welcomes many visitors, and with ordinary care most trips are relaxed. Customs differ from Japan, though. Here are practical points; also check your government's latest travel advice.
Touts in the medinas
You may meet people offering directions or steering you into shops. A clear, polite no is usually enough, and walking with a licensed guide reduces this greatly.
Valuables
- Keep bags in front in crowds
- Leave passports in the hotel safe
- Keep expensive jewellery to a minimum
Dress and etiquette
Clothing covering shoulders and knees is respectful. Most mosques are closed to non-Muslims (Hassan II in Casablanca is an exception). Always ask before photographing people.
Going out at night
Narrow medina lanes get dark at night; hotel dining or restaurants with transfers are the easy option.
Local support
